What You'll Do

Enjoy a peaceful and scenic 1.5-hour afternoon cruise along the most iconic stretch of the River Thames in Oxford. Setting off from Folly Bridge, you will drift downstream along the University Regatta Course, passing Christ Church Meadows, the historic college boathouses and the lively bustle of rowing crews, punts and pleasure boats enjoying the river. Your cruise continues through the ancient Iffley Lock, an experience in its own right, before entering the tranquil water meadows that surround Oxford.

With overhanging willows, quiet backwaters and plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife, this part of the journey offers a relaxing contrast to the vibrant river upstream. The boat turns at Rose Island, a favourite spot of Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell during their famous river outings. A delicious afternoon tea is served aboard, provided by The Folly riverside restaurant. Enjoy finger sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, and a tempting selection of cakes or tarts, all accompanied by freshly brewed tea.

Private versions of this cruise are available on request, and public trips operate from March to November.
