What You'll Do

Discover the unique landscapes of the Clay Trails above St Austell on this varied 5.5-mile guided walk. After a short bus ride to Carluddon, you will set out across rugged terrain that combines open moorland, wooded valleys and peaceful stream crossings. The paths are well graded with little ascent, making this an enjoyable walk for most abilities.

As you explore, your friendly guide will point out fascinating relics from the area's industrial past, offering insights into Cornwall's clay mining heritage. The route also rewards you with sweeping views toward the coast. Midway through the walk, there is the option to stop for refreshments at the Wheal Martyn Clay Works cafe before continuing along scenic disused railway lines back to St Austell.

With a relaxed guiding style and plenty of opportunities to ask questions, this is an enjoyable and informative way to experience one of Cornwall's lesser-known landscapes. Discounts are available for PARD CARD holders and for guests arriving by public transport using the GOODJOURNEY code.
